Sara Peters, Artist + Art Therapist
I am a multimedia artist and art therapist in San Antonio, Texas. A life-as-art philosophy crucially integrates my work as an artist and clinician within the form of social practice and visual art.
My work embodies a purposeful experience with the making and viewing of art as agent of transformation in the personal and transpersonal realm. This approach occupies a reflective and confessional intersection of art, storytelling, and healing while its process becomes a vehicle for the exchange of information and experience. Works thematically and materially explore objects and images that speak to land, the body, ecofeminism, identity, and spirituality.
As a seventh generation South Texan, my family's vocational legacy of farming and ranching inform an experiential knowledge of ingenuity and adaptability with materials and humanity's interdependence with the natural world.
Using both mixed media approaches and integrative sculpture processes I tell stories of, about, and from the land, creating works to transform the ordinary to the sacred; illuminating messages of hope and restoration found written throughout nature.
When I'm not in creating art, you can find me gardening the yard, looking for the perfect wallpaper for my home's desk nook, out and about with my beloved husband, Brian and our two dogs, Hank & Lacy.
