The Great Round: Mandala Mural

The Great Round is a theory created by art therapist Joan Kellog based on Carl Jung's study of the collective unconscious and 12 archetypes or stages of the Hero's Journey. In psychodynamic approaches, this journey is seen not only as an external journey, but also an internal quest, facing various challenges to connect with a more integrated self. This mural, based on great round, was designed and created for a community mental health clinic. Used both for contemplative and mindful practices, the mural may also be used as a tool with therapist guidance as a healing intervention. Each smaller circle within the larger represents a task of development. Symbols and shapes are used to visually communicate experiences within each stage.
